  • Unfortunately, the biggest drawback to the Nikon 1 AW1 is something that doesn't really fit in any of the above mentioned sections: The price. When you think about having to purchase a camera body and special waterproof lenses, you're going to spend more...

  • Abstract:  2 years after I published my review of the Nikon AW1, I recently bought one off the resale market. I thought Nikon would release an updated model one year after its launch, but after yet another year of waiting, I reckon Nikon is not going to release a ne...

  • Solidly built and handsome looking camera, Dropped and cracked, yet it still works and is amazingly still water resistant, Surprisingly clicky back buttons, Double locking panels, Great color and skin tone reproduction,
  • A bigger grip would be nice especially for a “underwater camera”, Struggles to wrangle highlights in post, Noisy starting at ISO 1600, Not as water sealed as promised, Blindingly bright AF assist lamp, No hot shoe or powered flash connector

  • Rugged qualities ensure a built-to-last construction, Sharp images
  • Occasional problem with inner glass of lens misting up, No eye level viewfinder
  • The Nikon 1 AW1 is the company's most fully realized compact system camera of the past three years. It's a rugged model that, unusually, takes really good photographs, and with consistency. Perhaps that's something worth paying a premium. This story, "Niko...

  • Waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, freezeproof, Waterproof interchangable lenses, Bigger sensor than other underwater cameras, Built-in GPS, Good water handling characteristics.
  • Lens seals require annual maintenance, No built-in Wifi, No waterproof strap accessory, Corner located tripod mount.
  • The Nikon 1 AW is an excellent choice for picture taking either in or out of the water. It produces better quality images than typical fixed-lens waterproof compacts, is less expensive and fiddly than conventional cameras with underwater housings and ...

  • Rugged design. Waterproof to 49 feet. Integrated GPS. Good high ISO performance. Very fast burst shooting and focus. Unique shooting modes. 1080i60 and slow-motion video support.
  • Pricey. Controls may frustrate advanced photographers. Electronic shutter limits sync speed. External adapter required to add Wi-Fi support. Limited lens selection
  • The Nikon 1 AW1 is the first interchangeable lens camera that you can take deep underwater, but it's best left in automatic mode....

  • While it's somewhat disappointing that the sensor in the AW1 is the same unit found on the Nikon 1 J3 and V2 models, it's not really surprising.Given the competitive price, which is less than most dedicated underwater housings, the AW1 is an attractive op...

  • It would be easy to classify the 14.2 megapixel Nikon 1 AW1 as a specialist or niche product and perhaps even dismiss it as such given the at first slightly high seeming £750 asking price on launch, and whilst it is certainly currently in a class of its...
