  • It's important to note that these ruggedness certifications are far from bombproof. The IP65 rating, for example, caters for full dustingress protection, but doesn't certify the tablet against anything more than 'lowpressure' water jets an IP67 rating wou
  • With pricing for the base specification at around £900 (inc. VAT, £750 ex. VAT) or $1,349, rising as you add optional tablet features such as mobile broadband and accessories like a vehicle dock (£124/$199), back handle (£34/$54) or shoulder strap/top han...

  • Abstract:  It's been a decade since Xplore Technologies introduced a brand-new platform, and that's a good long time even in the rugged computing industry where product cycles are long and longevity matters. But while Xplore's venerable line of ultra-rugged iX104...

  • Abstract:  I always hesitate to be hard on review units, however the RangerX tablet is one that is designed to take more vigorous day to day use than standard products not survive. Here an Android device designed for the harder life....

  • Impact and water resistant; Bright screen; Great connectivity; 4G support
  • No Google Play; Bulky and heavy; Basic performance
  • The Xplore RangerX is a capable tablet that boasts some decent features, such as the 4G-compatible SIM Card slot. However, it’s first and foremost a tough-as-old-leather rugged machine that will suit anyone who ventures to hostile climes on holiday. As lo...

  • The RangerX is a beefy, super-strong tablet that's built like a tank, is water and dust-proof and it can endure some pretty hefty drops. Even a knock off the table onto the solid wood floor didn't leave a scratch on the Ranger X, which is something we can't say about other tablets and phones. Despite its sizeable appearance, it's not totally unwieldy: it weighs in at 990g (half as much again as t
  • Despite the brilliant screen, the major downside of the RangerX is that it's simply massive. It isn't too heavy, but you won't be able to sling it into your jam-packed bag as easily as say, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z. Granted, they are different tablets that serve different purposes - we doubt you'd want to take Sony's prime tablet with you to a construction site - but there's likely only budget fo
  • The RangerX is not for everyone: its huge footprint will keep it from finding a place in your daily shoulder bag. It's great at what it does, but it's not suited to everyday use at home and in the office. But if you're working out-and-about a lot, the ...

  • It's difficult to put a star rating on the RangerX, for several reasons. For one thing the price is not clear. We've asked Xplore for a UK price, and we've also asked for a quote from a UK reseller. In the US it starts at $1,349, so it's not a cheap table...
