  • Abstract:  There's no shortage of little black boxes on the market these days, Freeview+ HD PVRs included. Kudos to TVonics then for being bold with the HD500. But has it gone far enough with its features? Beyond the TVonics logo and neat blue fluorescent display yo...

  • Abstract:  Let's not beat around the bush; £250+ is a hell of a lot of money to pay for a Freeview+ HD recorder these days, considering you can get very capable set-top boxes for little over the £100 mark. While the entry price may prove a barrier for many, the...

  • Abstract:  Having looked at an earlier model (not HD) this was an eagerly awaited arrival. Very different in size and shape. My first check was the pass-through and that performed correctly, is this to be the unit I have been looking for?...

  • Easy to set up and use; looks great; worked well,
  • Doesn’t play music or video over USB or network; not all channels offer trailer booking
  • A very impressive Freeview HD recorder, though it’s not as flexible as the Humax model....

  • At £280, the HD500 is cheaper than Humax's rather nice and equally capacious HDR-Fox T2, but also packs in fewer features beyond the DVR basics. TVonics sells direct and is discounting its DVR to £250 and bundling an extra, second year of warranty, wh...

  • the subtle fadein and fadeout effects. There’s no clutter, they’re efficient, and zip you around the functions of the DTRHD500 in double quick time. There’s even an impressive picture in picture mode, so you could theoretically keep an eye on two football matches airing on two different channels at the same time. It’s just the colouring that leaves us wanting for preferences to change those hues
  • Garish menus and walletworrying price
  • British design at its best, smart and sexy. Buy with confidence, this one’s a solid gold contender....
