  • Very nice to use and hold. Excellent LCD screen. Very good image and video quality. Fun and useful picture effects
  • Larger lenses can overwhelm the small body. Kit lens doesn't deliver the most from the sensor. Need to fiddle and delve in the menus to make the most of manual modes
  • Sony has created a great little interchangeable lens camera in the NEX-C3, although it's not exactly what we'd call compact with the kit lens attached....

  • The quality of images from the new sensor is consistently superb. The detail, colour, exposure and focus in JPEG form are comparable with the best DSLRs that use this same sensor. We set both focus and exposure to centre spot and mode to P and rarely had
  • Barrel and pincushion distortion at the focal length extremes is bad enough to be disturbing, particularly when taking photos of buildings. The absence of any sort of optical viewfinder makes framing in bright sun light almost impossible
  • We did our usual pseudo tourist test of the NEX-C3 to see how it performs in real world conditions. We were delighted with the results and not a little surprised. Most of the time we were shooting almost blind because the LCD is unreadable in bright sunli...

  • Abstract:  Like the original models the NEX-C3 is targeted at amateur photographers with minimal knowledge of photography and is being manufactured in black, silver and pink to meet a range of tastes. Potential buyers are quality-conscious snappers who know larger s...

  • Regardless of the sales intentions, the NEX-C3 is a fantastic value for the money. The market for entry-level system cameras is in full bloom. Casual photographers who want something better than their old point-and-shoot or smartphone have dozens of afford...

  • Abstract:  The best things come in small packages with comically large lenses. The Alpha NEX-C3 is Sony's entry-level compact mirrorless system camera, and the best way for casual photographers to step up from a point-and-shoot or smartphone to a proper sharpshooter...

  • The Sony Alpha NEX-C3 is a solid option for photographers who want a compact interchangeable-lens camera with a good feature set and above average-image quality. It has most of the same features as the higher-end NEX cameras, so you'll get good value f...

  • Viewfinding and fiddle factor aside, it’s virtually impossible to argue with the image quality – at high ISOs the NEX-C3 is incredibly impressive, relative to its price, size and in comparison to fully-fledged DSLRs. It’s true that ambitious photogra...

  • High resolution; APS-C sensor as in DSLRs yet small body size; high-res tilting 3in LCD; fun, on-board digital effects filters including 3D Sweep Panorama
  • No built-in flash (just a clip-on plastic bulb); omits standard AV output (just HDMI and USB 2.0)
  • Colours are warm and images presentable straight off the camera; indeed only an expert eye would see any difference between the output here and that of one of Sony's entry-level DSLRs. Though the NEX-C3 is good, the steely utilitarian exterior means it's...
