  • Abstract:  You can't just do something dangerous and insane these days without filming it for posterity. And while action cameras let us relieve these life-highlights over and over, they aren't all created equal. We decided to see for ourselves which one could handl...

  • Inexpensive. Rugged build. Good battery life.
  • Cumbersome controls. Struggles in low-light situations. Loses finer details
  • The Sony Action Cam is one of the most affordable action cameras you can get, and while it's capable of shooting decent looking video at 1080p60, its video quality just isn't on the same level as some competitors....

  • Go Back to Top. Skip To: Start of Article, POV Cameras, Sony, Video cameras
  • Lousy mounts, and a dearth of them. Is this thing on? Without the app, it's hard to tell. Want to use that WiFi? Cool, but your battery will die before your fun ends

  • Compact and light, Highquality 16megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor, Image stabilization works well, Easy to use, Builtin WiFi
  • Mounts oneuseonly, Can only be mounted in waterproof case, Outgunned by new GoPro Hero3
  • We found the Action Cam to be a whole lot of fun to use out in the field, as you can see from our embedded video clip. We were able to position the camera in a number of locations on our Honda CBR 1000RR to get a great range of shots, with both forward an...

  • Effective image stabilisation. Simple operation. Good still image quality
  • Video quality isn't as good as the GoPro. Lens sharpness drops off towards the sides of the frame
  • The second Action Cam from Sony adds some much-needed improvements to design and functionality. Plus, if you need image stabilisation, it's the camera to beat....

  • Digital stabilisation system, Decent image quality in low light (compared with other pocket camcorders), Slowmotion 120 fps mode in 720p HD, Builtin GPS, WiFi with quick connection via NFC, Charges over microUSB
  • Image quality isn't as sharp and precise as the GoPro Hero3(1080/25p), LCD settings screen isn't backlit, Can't mount the camera directly on a tripod (only when in its waterproof housing), Some design features could be better (connections on the underside
