  • Abstract:  What happens when an electronics behemoth jumps into DSLRs? In Sony's case, it pushes development into overdrive for a couple of years. Then it makes a full-frame 24.6MP CMOS sensor and steals the title of most megapixels in the 35mm format from Canon,...

  • Beautiful 24.6MP stills, Outstanding viewfinder, Built-in image stabilization, Intelligent Preview very helpful, Easy to operate
  • It’s still 3 grand; for serious photographers only, Limited “cheat” modes, Not weatherized like other uber D-SLRs, Heavy and bulky, ISO “only” hits 6400, *
  • The Sony alpha DLSR-A900 is a terrific camera. It’s clearly for serious photographers who want excellent quality and are interested in making large prints and/or severe crops. It’s easy to recommend, but alas, not so easy to pay for, sinc...

  • Abstract:  Sony showed the world that it is possible to bring out an entire line-up of digital SLR cameras in a short period of time and at an immense speed. And not only that, it puts Sony ahead of the competition with certain techniques that the rivals arent y...

  • Viewfinder, image quality, LCD, Intelligent Preview, remote control, effective stabilisation
  • Handling issues, noise across sensitivity range, DT lens support
  • It should come as no surprise that the A900 is a solidly built DSLR, capable of producing highly detailed images. From a practical consideration, its resolution and the Carl Zeiss optics currently available make it a perfect match for landscape and st...

  • Class-leading resolutionv (as long as your lenses are good enough), incredibly solid build quality, environmental sealing, Intuitive operation and uncluttered control and menu system, Excellent out of camera JPEG results with superb tonality, dynamic rang...
  • Noise reduction settings applied to raw as well as JPEG files - cannot be turned off for raw but left on for JPEGs (as is normal practice), Relatively high levels of noise at anything over ISO 400 (ISO 6400 is of very, very limited use), Destructive noise...
  • The Alpha 900 represents in a nutshell the almost schizophrenic nature of Sonys digital camera division, which can market compact cameras with smile detection and a Playstation style user interface at the same time as this, perhaps the most pared-dow...

  • Technically highest resolution to date, Built-in image stabilisation, Superb viewfinder with 100% coverage, Quick handling and 5fps shooting.
  • More noise than rivals above 400 ISO, No Live View or movie function, Upper information screen very basic, Tendency to underexpose in our tests.
  • Support this site by price checking below There’s no doubt the Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 delivers an impressive specification for the money, and one which stands-up well against its rivals. You get very high resolution images, quick continuous shooting...

  • Bright, vivid and spacious viewfinder. Excellent incamera image stabilization system. Easy nomenu adjustments with Fn button and multiselector toggle. Killer price for the highest resolution, high functioning, easy to use DSLR.
  • Focus points not big and bright enough in brightly lit situations. No latch for memory card cover. Pointless postage stamp sized LCD on top of the body. No continuous ISO in viewfinder. Power switch on left side of body. Camera Resolution: 24.6 megapixels

  • Abstract:  Sony have now released full details of their new Alpha A900 24MP full frame DSLR with built in image stabilization. Earlier this year they promised it would be available by the end of 2008 and they have come though with the new Sony A900. In a "retr...

  • Extraordinary resolution, nothing touches it at its price point, Built-in SteadyShot image stabilization, Surprisingly fast, given the amount of data the camera is pushing around, Good color rendering: Natural without seeming flat, A lot of nice user i...
  • Some image noise even at ISO 200, At anything above ISO 200, noise limits maximum print size before resolution becomes an issue, High-ISO performance doesnt match that of Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III (Which is also 2.6x as expensive though), Dynamic range ...
  • Sony started the year promising a lot for their flagship camera. We didnt have a name, nor a long list of features, but we did know that the sensor would be a 24.6-megapixel design that was expected to impress. It certainly has done that. The Sony A90...
