  • PCIe 3.0 x4 interface with NVMe protocol, Equipped with Toshiba Toggle MLC NAND, Available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB capacities, Good sequential and random read and write performance, M.2 2280 and HHHL PCIe form factors, Supports TrueSpeed and TruePr
  • Garbage collection problem limits maximum write speed, Not supported by Plextor's PlexTool software, Does not support hardware based encryption
  • By now, I've spent a lot of time with the Plextor M8Pe and, despite some of the issues I've had, I can't help but to like the drive. This gamer-oriented, PCIe SSD offers good performance, a bold, eye catching design and a massive heatsink to keep it cool...

  • Good overall performance, Stylish design aimed at PC desktop modders, Decently priced
  • No software, Not as speedy as Samsung SSD 960 EVO and Pro drives, No substance to e-sports branding
  • The Plextor M8Pe M.2 NVMe is a speedy yet affordable internal solid-state drive—but it's not competitive at its current price...

  • Excellent overall performance, in a big-picture sense, Great styling for PC desktop modders, upgraders, Reasonably affordable
  • Slower than Samsung's SSD 960 lineup, E-sports branding is just fluff, No software
  • The M8Pe is a fast M.2 PCI Express SSD with next-gen technology at a decent price. It isn't quite as fast as some new Samsung drives, though, which means it needs a price drop. Read More...

  • The Plextor M8Pe cannot keep up with Samsung's 960 Pro, but otherwise it is a solid contender in the PCIe SSD space. Its overall performance is near the Samsung 960 EVO and the Toshiba OCZ RD400. All of them offer better real-world performance than Intel'...

  • 2GBps reads, 1GBps writes, Sylish heatsink and activity lights
  • TBW rating of the 1TB model is slightly low
  • The M8Pe is a worthy competitor to OCZ's RD400, and quite a bit cheaper than the Intel 750—a very good product, in other words. And it's the sexiest-looking PCIe card SSD out there, if that means anything to you. To comment on this article and othe...

  • 1TB capacity, Value pricing, Exceptional application performance, High endurance, MLC NAND
  • Plextor software tools missing (at the time of writing), Straight transfer performance
  • The Plextor M8Pe NVMe SSD series is the unsung hero for late 2016. Plextor hasn't had a product that impressed us in a number of years. The M5 Pro from 2012 was the last product from the company that I recommended to users based on performance and ove...

  • The numbers that these NVMe M2 units produce are obviously staggering and as such impressive. And yeah going from a HDD towards an SSD is making a huge difference. Going from a fast SATA3 SSD towards NVMe M2 again is a much faster step, but sure less to...

  • It has been quite some time since Plextor has given us anything to rave about. We are very happy with the M8PeY mainly because it delivers exceptional moderate workload performance. It also did extremely well with our brutal Sledgehammer test. These res...

  • PCI-Express SSDs are still quite expensive, but they also perform significantly better than SATA600 SSDs. A few years ago the additional price you paid for a high-end SSD barely gave you better performance due to the SATA600-bottleneck, but now the differ...
