  • Sidescrolling levels have a classic Sonic feel, Fire and Ice mechanic improves otherwise simple platforming challenges, Varied levels and mission structures
  • Too easy overall, Aggressively formulaic at times

  • A few flaws keep Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice from perfection, particularly other characters, but it succeeds at being a simple game about going fast. Pick this one up and go for the time trials, it's a lot of fun...

  • Characters bring unique flavors, Colorful and bright, Good variety of stages, Nicely paced game, Sense of humor
  • Muddy with ingame cutscenes, Pretty underwhelming plot, Skews slightly easier, Tails' Hovercraft feels too slippery

  • A solid game that definitely has an audience. Might lack replay value, could be too short or there are some hard-to-ignore faults, but the experience is fun. How we score:  The Destructoid Reviews Guide...

  • Abstract:  There's a pretty good Sonic the Hedgehog game lurking under the padding and sports tape wrapped around Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice for the Nintendo 3DS.If people are wary of new Sonic the Hedgehog games given the franchise's hit-or-miss quality over the past c...

  • Great balance of speed and exploration, Finely tuned controls, Fun boss battles
  • Fire and ice mechanics seem a bit tacked on, Characters other than Sonic are underused, Machine levels drag down the pace of the game
  • While it's not going to revolutionize the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice is a solid entry in the franchise. Its slick controls, fun boss battles, and entertaining speed sections are bound to put a smile on fans' faces

  • Strong 3D visuals, Great 2D platforming, Serious speed and rollercoaster thrills
  • Lacks genuinely memorable levels, Doesn't do enough with its most inventive elements, Tiresome Tails sub and hovercraft sequences
  • This isn't the smartest, most exciting or most imaginative 2D platformer you'll find on the 3DS. In fact, Sega seems hell-bent on hobbling its chances with a selection of tedious or frustrating mini-games. Yet, overall, Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice isn't b...

  • Boss fights make good use of the two screens, Albeit average, it is still a better attempt at using the Sonic Boom brand compared to the previous two titles.
  • Sketchy controls that make it frustrating to play on various occasions, Most of the story is spent chasing a small robot, Visuals look dated and uninspiring compared to other Sonic titles,

  • Fire and Ice just isn't a good game. While its platforming may be mechanically sound, the game just tries to do too much - and fails at most of it. If you're looking for a return to form for Sonic the Hedgehog, Fire and Ice unfortunately isn't it.Sonic Bo...
