  • Beautiful, unique environment and sound, Interesting, mysterious plot, Upgrades are a joy to find
  • Too short and doesn't offer much variety in its environment, Confusing navigation which can slow gameplay to a crawl, No VR support in a game which could've benefitted from it
  • Scanner Sombre is a quick, beautiful and melancholic distraction with an interesting twist, but its main puzzle is navigating the caves, which can become confusing and frustrating due to everything being made of the same beams of light

  • Creative visual style inspired by LIDAR, Excellent sound design increases sense of claustrophobia
  • Soso payoff, Doesn't do much with its core conceit
  • It's a weird experiment—and, again, one I think will utterly baffle anyone who comes to it because they see it's by “the Prison Architect Developers.” This is considerably less mainstream, more likely to appeal to those interested in what's being done on...

  • Abstract:  Introversion, the independent studio once styled as the last of the bedroom coders before bedroom coding became a thing all over again, doesn't tend to rush things. Prison Architect spent some three years in early access before finally crossing the line...

  • I started this review by saying that Scanner Sombre is the kind of game I would need to see a review of. I still believe that, and I hope what I have written provides the information others may be looking for. It is a game of exploration that has a twist...
