  • HDMI up-conversion, DivX-compatible, stylish design
  • Noisy VCR operation, no HDMI output for VHS, only so-so video quality

  • HDMI upconversion to 720p and 1080i resolutions; can play back DivX files; solid disc compatibility; relatively inexpensive.
  • Cannot deliver full DVD resolution over HDMI; HDMI output cannot pass signals from VCR.
  • The inexpensive Samsung DVD-V9650 DVD/VCR combo unit has an HDMI output, a nice design, and DivX compatibility, but its soft video quality falls short of other HDMI players weve tested.
