  • Abstract:  With a black gloss bezel and a stand that swivels 45 degrees, the 47LB1DA has a sleek, high-tech look. Its speakers are built into the sides of the screen but dont add much to the sets overall width. Controls to adjust volume, switch inputs, and crui...

  • Abstract:  When you see TVs like LG's 37LB1DB, it really is no surprise that Korea has stolen Japan's TV thunder (not to mention a hefty chunk of its market share). The 37LB1DB is, in a word, gorgeous. First, there's the all-over high-gloss, jet-black finish. Then t...

  • Integrated HD DVR. Swivel table stand. Quality remote control.
  • High black levels (poor image contrast). Ineffective advanced color controls. Slight banding noted in fine gradients. DVR does not support HDMI or component video sources.
  • The LG 42LB1DRA is an attractively styled 42-inch LCD HDTV that incorporates a high-def DVR, but its disappointing contrast ratio and other image-quality concerns detract from an otherwise appealing design....

  • Includes built-in DVR with CableCard slot; relatively accurate color; well-integrated DVR menu system; slick looks, with included swivel stand.
  • DVR can record only one HD show at once; display reproduces light color of black; screen is less uniform than most LCDs; image washes out from off-angle; some flicker with 1080i sources; side-mounted speakers increase width.
  • While the 42-inch LG 42LB1DRs unique built-in DVR will appeal to those who want to ditch the cable box, its disappointing picture quality and single-tuner DVR limit its appeal.

  • Integrated HD DVR, smooth operation from a complex combination system
  • Relatively small hard drive capacity, unimpressive black levels
  • LG Electronics takes television one step farther with its 42LB1DR, a 42-inch LCD HDTV with an integrated digital video recorder (DVR). The television is a high-performance model in its own right, and with the addition of the DVR, the 42LB1DR raises hi...

  • Abstract:  The old saying is true: There?s no such thing as a free lunch ? or a free DVR. Okay, maybe I added that last part, but it?s worth mentioning. In one way or another, you will pay for the wonderful convenience of time-shifting, be it a lump sum for an ex...

  • Good overall hi-def performance, Impressive value for money
  • Disappointing standard-def images, Unexceptional sound
  • Plenty of its rivals have their charms, admittedly, but this LG is the supermodel of the pack. Its partly because of the glamour of its high-gloss finish, partly because of the eye-catching block stand connection, and partly because of the way a row...

  • Lustrous design; dual HDMI inputs; useful features; sound performance
  • Average build quality; limited conventional connectivity; bleached blacks and unstable images
  • LGs 42LB1D is a reasonably affordable large-screen TV with decent connectivity and features -- and terrific sound -- but its picture performance cant claim to be anywhere close to class leading ...

  • Plenty of connectivity, user-friendly image adjustment, built in DTV with freeview channels, sharp clear picture, easy swivel stand
  • Sound quality from the built-in speakers is a little disappointing, image quality could be better
  • You’ll be well prepared with the LB1D but those looking for a no-compromise audio and visual solution might be found wanting

  • Good HD picture quality; excellent audio production; integrated subwoofer; DCDi deinterlacer; informative display panel.
  • Mild banding; noisy TV and DVD reproduction; uninspiring design.
  • The LG 42LB1R lived up to our expectations for delivering beautiful HD pictures and bassy audio, though its standard broadcast performance left much to be desired.
