  • Broad ‘travel zoom’ type focal range; 3D image generation; stereo sound; customisable settings and full manual control
  • Requires a 3D TV to make the most of some core features
  • Overall, the Sony comes across as a blend of Fujifilm's F600EXR travel zoom in terms of versatility and the premium end S100 from Canon in terms of sophistication. The fact that its price tag falls below both makes it even more of a compelling buy

  • Plenty of manual and auto options, Broad lens range, Built in GPS and 3D adds to future, proof feel
  • Tiny backplate buttons, Large body, Need a 3D TV for 3D images, GPS struggles to find signal indoors
  • Sony has packed a lot into this high-performance travel zoom that poses very serious competition for the likes of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ20 , Fuji FinePix F600 EXR , plus a host of rival compact cameras that similarly incorporate a broad focal range w...

  • Packed with features, Good travel zoom, Built-in GPS and 3D
  • Need to add a 3D TV, Broader than rivals, GPS weak when indoors
  • Enticing the point and shoot merchant who has got a little more serious about their photography, Sony has packed a lot of firepower into the Cyber-shot HX9V’s chunky, if pocket-sized, chassis. A 16x optical zoom pushes it into travel zoom category wit

  • Abstract:  Sony is out for blood with their HX9V, a relatively expensive, high performance travel zoom that aims to be nothing less than the best camera in the category. Optical zoom has been upgraded to 16x, and it's likely Sony stuck with the same 16 megapixel se...

  • Excellent zoom range, decent pictures, GPS, affordable, well built & good finish
  • No Aperture or Shutter Priority, menus can be a little slow to react
  • The Sony Cyber-shot HX9V is a feature-packed and affordable 16x zoom compact camera. There’s little to complain about as the HX9’s focusing system, 10fps burst mode, GPS technology, manual controls and variety of scene modes all come up trumps. This is...

  • The HX9V is a powerful compact but faces stiff competition from its cheaper rivals such as the Panasonic Lumix-DMC TZ20 and Canon PowerShot 230HS. But, for the extra money, the HX9V does offer an array of intelligent features, as well as a longer zoom len...

  • Build quality, Image quality, Ease of use
  • Restricted aperture control, No Raw shooting, Expensive
  • Overall, the Sony HX9V produces some of the best image quality we've seen in some while. Images are consistently crisp, sharp and punchy with pleasing colour and good levels of contrast. Using the camera in either Program or Manual mode there are plenty o...
