The part that counts is the image quality and on that score there are no complaints. Images are sharp with accurate colour and almost always correct exposure without adjustment. Our standard subjective tests showed excellent detail rendering and RAW files
The kit lens is optically good but mechanically a little crude in operation. The swivelling 65mm LCD is awful. Even with the adjustable brightness turned down to minimum the image is washed out, colourless and lacking in contrast
This camera is certainly a mixed bag. In the hand it feels cheap, but there is no getting away from the fact that the image quality is very good. The excellent Sony NEX-C3 compact system camera in our opinion is a better buy for around $...
Abstract: DateJuly 26, 2012 Read later This 16-megapixel camera comes with an 18mm-55mm kit lens. It is the latest iteration of Sony's translucent mirror technology, where 70 per cent of the light passes through the fixed mirror to the sensor and 30 pe...
Clear Zoom function, EVF useful for reviewing images, Tilting screen
Limited raw format options, Very limited incamera editing, Lowlight focusing tricky
With the Alpha a37, Sony has developed another interesting and very usable camera to sit in its lineup. Image quality - arguably the most important factor - is great, with excellent colour, details and dynamic range. However, the handling could be improve...

As this a budget model costing a very reasonable £499 with the 18-55mm standard zoom supplied on test, we don't get the top plate function window found on semi pro models, but we are provided with a shooting mode dial crammed with 12 manual and automatic...
Solid-feel build, tilting LCD back screen, plenty of manual control and automatic digital effects, good value for money with 18-55mm kit lens, sharp colour-rich images straight out of the camera
Some pixel fringing between areas of high contrast, AF sometimes struggles to keep up with faster subjects, LCD could be more flexible still to match the likes of Canon’s EOS 650D.

As entry-level cameras go, the Alpha 37 offers a lot of benefits. The array of clever features makes it easy to achieve some stunning results – so long as you have the composition to match. However, the new sensor doesnt seem to have gone far enough to o...
The Sony Alpha SLT-A37 offers some class-leading performance, along with a solid set of features and respectable photo quality
The EVF looks dim, and the LCD is on the small side
There's very little to fault in the highly versatile Sony Alpha SLT-A37. Its output really shines, with punchy colours and plenty of sharp, well-defined detail. Video performance is among the best, and it's extremely well priced. As such, it's one of t...
