The lens is excellent and the resolved detail is exceptional, helped by the sensor-shift image stabilisation. The wide angle end of the zoom is wonderful with very little barrel distortion. RAW images are saved in Adobe’s universal DNG format.
Write times to the memory card are a problem, especially in RAW mode. It takes some seconds to write to a standard SD card, during which time the camera is locked and unusable. The RAW image is large – 14.4MB – and the write delay will stop mo...
The Ricoh goes to the top of the list of cameras recommended for travellers to Europe. In fact this is a camera that would be handy in a photographer’s kit alongside a single lens reflex for those occasions when a quick snap with an all-in-one is ca...
Abstract: As we noted in the Winter 2007 issue of Photo Review Australia magazine, there are few digicams that meet the needs of serious photographers. Ever an innovator, Ricoh has gone part of the way to provide a solution through its new Caplio GX100 model, wh...

Mediocre image quality with higher-than-average amount of noise for shots above ISO 400; slow focusing; unattractive design.
The Ricoh Caplio GX100 brings the control and features of a good dSLR camera to a compact model. However, its average image quality, high image noise above ISO 400 and unattractive design are shortcomings that may keep many from being attracted by its ...
