  • Kit lens bundle is super-compact and light, Quick operation, fast autofocus, Good image and video quality
  • Advanced controls hidden in menus, No option for external viewfinder or mic
  • Panasonic's LUMIX GF5 completes the GF-series' transition from compact enthusiast to super-compact point-and-shoot mirrorless camera. It's simple, newbie-friendly, and seriously small -- but anyone looking for manual control should opt for the GX1 instead...

  • We gave it a good workout at a zoo and were delighted with the results. The LCD was better than average in bright sunlight, although it would be nice to have the option of an optical viewfinder. Considering this camera's combination of small size, interc...

  • Image quality is consistently good. Auto focus is very fast and even in autoeverything mode the camera works well. The rugged construction makes it feel heavy in comparison to a compact, but it is the reassuring bulk of durability and quality.
  • The absence of an accessible knob to move from automatic into P, A, S or M mode (it is done through the menu) is annoying for anyone who wants to exercise user control. This is definitely a pointandshoot camera
  • We gave the little Panasonic a good work-out at a zoo and were delighted with the results. The LCD was better than average in bright sunlight, although it would be nice to have the option of an optical viewfinder, as Olympus provides for their equivalent...

  • High-resolution screen. Compact, lightweight configuration. Fast autofocusing and response times. Good video quality
  • No ability to use an external viewfinder. Controls are hidden away in the touchscreen and menus. RAW files contain much more usable detail than JPEGs
  • As an entry point to the world of ILCs, the Lumix GF5 is a nifty little performer. Just don't expect to be able to make the most of its manual controls in a timely fashion....

  • Abstract:  The GF5 represents a relatively minor upgrade to the GF3, despite its new 12-megapixel Live MOS sensor and improved image processor. The body design has been refined and is slightly more angular with a larger, rubber-clad grip. More important is the boost...

  • Small size, Low noise images, Metal buttons
  • No manual control in Creative Control mode, Slightly unresponsive touchscreen, Auto white balance inaccuracies
  • Buying Guide Best DSLR: top cameras by price and brand Overall, the Panasonic Lumix GF5 is very good. Panasonic has done a great job at building a camera that will appeal very strongly to those looking to step up from compact or bridge models, while keepi...

  • Abstract:  Compact cameras with interchangeable lenses are perfect for people who want DSLR quality without the bulk and complexity. They aren't cheap, however, and although they're smaller than DSLRs, most of them are still too big for anything but the roomiest ...
