Good physical shape and weight, Vibrant video colors
Generally poor video performance, Terrible button and port placement
Recently, Panasonic has made some of the best prosumer camcorders on the market, so we were excited to try the SD9, a tiny, three-CCD camera able to record 1080i video (1920 x 1080) to SD cards. While this 9.7-ounce device seems like the ideal pocket b...

Compact and lightweight; saturated colors.
Moderate to low-light videos look cloudy; some awkward design choices; smallish LCD with terrible color reproduction; awful bundled software.
Despite its trio of CCDs, the video quality and performance of the Panasonic HDC-SD9 are a bit too inconsistent.

The HDC-SD9 is an evolutionary upgrade of the SD5. While the majority of changes are arguably minor, they combine to lift the camcorder head-and-shoulders above its predecessor, not to mention the majority of competitors.
Abstract: We’ve got no complaints about the image quality, but given the almost £600 price tag it’s a little disappointing that you’ll have to fork out some extra cash for a memory card as the SD9 has no built-in memory at all.
Stylish design, Solid build, Impressive spec, Compact, Good picture quality
Awkward controls, No microphone input

The Panasonic HDC-SD9's compact size is great and it's relatively inexpensive, which is always a good thing. But despite its trio of CCDs, the video quality and performance are too inconsistent for us to give it a full thumbs-up ...
