  • Nice size; macro mode; electronic image stabilization; takes SDHC cards.
  • Garish-looking design with hard-to-use buttons; lame software.
  • The JVC GC-FM1's impractical design and poor software hobble an otherwise competent mini camcorder competitor. Read full review See all prices

  • Abstract:  In many ways, the JVC Picsio GC-FM1 (MSRP $199) comes as a disappointment. It's easy to use and has impressive video quality—better than the other ultracompacts we've tested. This is due, in large part, to the impressive high resolution sensor and the ...

  • Small and light. Optional HDMI output. Not expensive
  • Footage is grainy and choppy. No supplied storage. Questionable looks. Some buttons require a firm prod
  • The Picsio doesn't really do anything to distinguish itself from the competition at the same price point, apart from its questionable aesthetics....

  • Excellent video in optimum lighting, good 4x digital zoom and macro mode
  • Poor low-light performance, cheap plastic finish, too expensive for what it offers
  • The JVC GC-FM1 HD pocket camcorder shoots some of the best bright-light video we’ve seen, but it’s hampered by its plastic build, its finicky controls, and the execution of its marquee features. ...

  • Abstract:  The portable video market has become a hot category now that Apple has joined the party with the iPod Nano. Flip video recently came out with the Mino HD which can capture at 720p. Not to be outdone, the JVC Picsio GC-FM1 can shoot in 1080p and takes ...

  • Cool design, lightweight and compact, HDMI connectivity offered alongside AV and USB out, memory expandable via (optional) SD or SDHC cards
  • Mono microphone and speaker, screen visibility compromised when cropped to ape 16:9 widescreen ratio, no convenient flip out USB arm offered as on some competitors
  • Not a bad level of specification for the price and good looks are the JVC GC-FM1's attractive qualities, but set against this low light performance is distinctly grainy, sound is mono and build is plasticy. Still, it's easy and fun to use and anyo...

  • Abstract:  JVC's Picsio GC-FM1 ultra compact camcorder has a problem on its hands. In the time it has taken to hit shelves, the GC-FM1 is now entering an increasingly cluttered market, with sterling pocket camcorders available from Kodak, Veho and Flip. It costs ...

  • We have to admit to being mostly impressed at how JVC has met the challenge of the changing camcorder market with the PICSIO. Like every other pocket Internet model it has major limitations, thanks to the fixed-focus lens and complete lack of manual setti...

  • All in all, the JVC GC-FM1 costs too much to recommend, considering its shortcomings compared with the Kodak Zi8. Its video quality in good lighting is among the best we've seen, and its highlight definition is a strong suit. However, the build qualit...
