  • Abstract:  I’m obsessed with data backups and willing to scarify my sleeping time just to get my crucial data backed up. Even with this kind of mentality, I still worry about data-loss due to backup corruption caused by backup drive failure. Data redundancy has b...

  • Abstract:  As the cost per megabyte of storage has dropped over the past decade, weve seen a corresponding rise in hard drive capacity at any given price point, but the meteoric growth of drive capacity has led to a corresponding problem with reliable backup or ...

  • Protects your data without your interference; can take a 3.5-inch SATA drive of any capacity and from any vendor; hot swappable; your data is available while Drobo is formatting a new drive (even if one drive fails); runs quietly; dashboard lets you tr...
  • Drobo itself is an USB-only device, and networking capability adds $200 to the bill; we would like to see Drobo bundled with a good backup application.
  • Drobo takes the pain and confusion out of data protection and lets you tailor and expand the drive according to your needs. This so-called storage robot works exactly as promised and is the most innovative storage device weve seen in a long time. We w...

  • "Unlimited storage." No need to muck about with confusing RAID settings. Nice, clean design. Easy-to-understand LEDs. Works on PCs, Macs, wireless routers with shared drive support, and expandable NAS drives with USB ports.
  • No drives included. You need more than one drive for data protection. Lopsided drive installations. No FAT32 compatibility (yet). No FireWire or eSATA. No included backup software.
  • Downloaders, video experts, pro and enthusiast photographers, take note. The Drobo is the drive enclosure youre looking for. It may be a bit expensive at the start, but its simplicity and future-proof expansion make it worth it....

  • Abstract:  John Virata I have all kinds of external storage devices, from USB flash drives, to 12GB pocket drives, to hard disk based external hard drives in eSATA and USB/FireWire configurations. My system drive is a 120GB model with a 500GB Seagate drive as my ...

  • Infinitely upgradeable capacity, Automatic everything from data repair to drive formatting, Easy to use and manage
  • Not bundled with any backup software, Too bad there isn’t faster interface options like Firewire or eSATA
  • After all of the testing I can say that the Drobo Storage Robot is a much better option for those trying to manage lots of data across multiple USB drives. The Drobo unit will cost you more up front but the flexibility, ease of use, data redundancy and...

  • Devices with built-in smarts have become pervasive, and the Drobo’s storage robot moniker pays tribute to the tricks it performs behind the scenes. However, calling it a robot seems a bit of a stretch. While it won’t rescue your kitten from a...
