  • Most people wouldn’t expect to be comparing the Seagate Barracuda XT to the Western Digital Velociraptor, but Seagate has managed to take a 7200RPM drive and put it in the performance levels of a 10,000 RPM drive. As such, we would actually have to rec...

  • The Seagate Barracuda XT hard drive supports SATA 6Gbps and offers fast performance and a capacity of up to 3TB. The drive is quiet and affordable and its 3TB version supports Windows XP well
  • The Seagate Barracuda runs rather hot
  • Storage-hungry users, especially tech-savvy ones, will find the Seagate Barracuda XT a great balance of storage space, backward compatibility, and speedy performance.

  • Excellent performance, Balanced read and write, 3TB capacity, SATA 6Gb/s, DiscWizard software for disk cloning and backup, 5 year warranty
  • DiscWizard will not work with RAID
  • The Seagate Barracuda XT 3TB is the fastest mechanical drive that we have tested. The drive has excellent sequential read and write up to 150MB/s. While SSDs may grab the market headlines, they are still relatively expensive at $1.5 per gigabyte and w...

  • Lots of storage space. Does not require Host Bus Adapter to access full capacity. Speedy.
  • Expensive. DiscWizard software slightly clunky.
  • With Seagate's new Barracuda XT hard drive, you won't need to install additional hardware to access all 3TB of its storage space, but you will need special software—and the willingness to pay more. Buy it now...

  • Seagate came a little tardy into the bare drive consumer 3TB market, but with that extra time they were able to offer a solution that lets buyers make use of the drive's full potential without add-on hardware. By waiting for Intel driver support and o...

  • Abstract:  The free space on our computers’ hard disks is getting consumed at a tremendous rate in our never-ending search for higher quality. HD video, 15-megapixel photographs, lossless audio, high-resolution textures of latest games are the reasons why we don’...

  • Abstract:  Of course the main advantage of a 7200 RPM drive is speed, and the XT definitely has that. It performed very well in our test suite, beaten only by a SSD in application and file copy performance, and coming in third behind a SSD and Seagate's hybrid Momentus XT in boot and loading times. However, it wasn't that much faster than a 1TB Barracuda 7200.11...

  • Build Quality, Great Performance, 2TB Of Space, SATA3 (6.0Gb/s), Price
  • None
  • From the very first moment i heard about SATA3 i knew it would bring nothing extraordinary on the table, at least not at first. Even SATA2 controllers took quite some time to mature and perform as they do today so i expect the same to be the...

  • Now, let’s do some summarizing. We will go through the tested products in alphabetic order. The Hitachi 7K1000.C had very odd basic firmware with low performance, but now it looks decent enough. It breaks no records and is not completely free from short...
