  • Good build quality, Controls are sensibly arranged, Produces superb images, Little noise
  • Not the fastest autofocus, Corner shading
  • Buying Guide Best Nikon Coolpix Nikon has produced a very interesting premium compact camera with the Coolpix A. The APS-C sized sensor proves its worth, capturing lots of detail and keeping noise well within acceptable boundaries. Having a larger than av...

  • The Nikon Coolpix A was able to team fast write speeds with great image quality, though for a price tag of £1000, we expecting more from its autofocus system...

  • Abstract:  And in a similar vein, I give you the Coolpix Nikon A. It looks like a simple point-and-shoot travel camera, and on one level it is just that. The A has no athletic swinging screen, no zoom, just a couple of nice, sensible, well-placed controls. Pick it u...

  • Abstract:  But regular cameras are now catching up in the convenience stakes. Some have WiFi built in so you can send images to social networking sites, while compact system cameras offer the high-quality image capabilities of DSLRs but in a smaller and more mana...

  • If it were the only APS-C equipped compact on the shelf, the Nikon Coolpix A would be an easy recommendation for the small niche of shooters interested in this kind of camera. It's capable of capturing DSLR-quality images and it can fit in your pocket—wha...

  • Combining a small compact camera body and an APS-C-sized sensor, the Nikon Coolpix A delivers both convenience and high image quality. The camera has all the features that most enthusiast photographers would want from a fixed-lens compact camera, although...

  • First class image quality, Easy to use menu system, High-quality LCD screen, Full-size sensor in pocketable body
  • Lacking built-in Wi-Fi, Absence of a filter thread, Slow focusing speed
  • The Nikon Coolpix A is the first APS-C compact to genuinely fit in a pocket – a great achievement. That makes it damn expensive, but Nikon has done an awful lot to ensure that it meets the premium price tag. Build quality is exemplary and image quality is...

  • Build quality, Digital noise kept nicely in check up to 3200 ISO or even 6400 ISO, Builtin flash and hotshoe, 4 fps burst mode, Customisable interface with two Fn buttons
  • Lens: sharpness levels could be more consistent at full aperture (f/2.8), No optical stabilisation, Autofocus still isn't really fast enough, especially in low light, No builtin WiFi or GPS, No videorecord button, No touchscreen or swivel/tilt screen, No
  • With its quality build, very compact design and top-notch 16-Megapixel APS-C sensor, the Coolpix A seems to have plenty of interesting features for advanced users. However, Nikon's Coolpix A has no optical or electronic viewfinder, no tilt or swivel scree...

  • The Nikon Coolpix A is a dedicated wide-angle compact with a big image sensor. Image quality can suffer at the edges of the frame, and the autofocus is a smidge slow, but if if you want to pack a lot into your shots, it's worth a look....
